Lesson 14: Trading Tips & Strategies - Becoming a Successful Trader

How to practically apply what you learned from ICT & SMC

๐Ÿ“Œ What You'll Learn in This Lesson

In this lesson, we discuss practical trading tips and strategies. How to properly use ICT & SMC concepts, risk management, and what it takes to become a successful trader.

1) Understand Market Structure Properly

Before taking any trade, you must understand the market structure properly. Identify if it's Up trend, Down trend, or Sideways. Don't trade against the higher timeframe (Daily, 4H) trend.

  • Up Trend: If it's making Higher Highs (HH) and Higher Lows (HL), focus on buy trades.
  • Down Trend: If it's making Lower Lows (LL) and Lower Highs (LH), focus on sell trades.
  • Sideways: If it's a range, wait for breakout or do range trading.
Market Structure

2) Use BOS and CHOCH Properly

BOS (Break of Structure) and CHOCH (Change of Character) are your main entry signals. You need to identify them properly.

  • BOS: Confirms the trend is continuing. Take entry on pullback after BOS.
  • CHOCH: Shows a potential trend reversal. Take entry in the new trend after CHOCH.
  • Confirmation: Check if it's broken with candle body. Wick breaks are not valid.

3) Do Multi-Timeframe Analysis

Don't trade looking at just one timeframe. Do multi-timeframe analysis. Look at the market from different timeframes.

  • Daily (HTF): Identify the major trend.
  • 4H (MTF): Look for pullbacks and PD arrays.
  • 15M/5M (LTF): Find precise entry triggers (CHOCH/BOS).
  • Rule: Take LTF entries in the direction of HTF trend.

4) Risk Management - Protect Your Capital

This is the most important thing. No matter how good your strategy is, if risk management is not proper, you will lose.

  • 1-2% Rule: Don't risk more than 1-2% of your account on one trade.
  • Stop Loss: Always use stop loss on every trade. Never trade without SL.
  • Risk:Reward: Maintain at least 1:2 or 1:3 risk:reward ratio.
  • Position Sizing: Calculate your position size based on SL distance.
Risk Management

5) Patience and Discipline

Successful trading is 90% psychology. If you have patience and discipline, you can succeed.

  • Don't Overtrade: Don't trade if there's no good setup. Quality over quantity.
  • No Revenge Trading: Don't quickly take another trade after a loss.
  • Follow Trading Plan: Trade according to your plan. Don't let emotions take over.
  • Journaling: Note every trade. Learn from your mistakes.

6) Use Liquidity and PD Arrays Properly

The main things in ICT & SMC are liquidity and PD arrays (OB, FVG, Order Blocks).

  • Liquidity Grabs: Watch for places where market goes to grab liquidity (Previous Highs/Lows).
  • Order Blocks: When price comes to HTF OBs, look for LTF entry signals.
  • FVG (Fair Value Gaps): Take entries when price comes to FVGs.
  • Premium/Discount: Buy in Discount zone (below 0.5), sell in Premium zone (above 0.5).

7) Trade During Kill Zones

If you trade during London or New York kill zones, you get better entries due to higher volatility.

  • London Kill Zone: 2:00 AM - 5:00 AM (NY Time) - Most movement happens during this time.
  • New York Kill Zone: 7:00 AM - 10:00 AM (NY Time) - US market opens during this time.
  • Asian Session: Usually has consolidation. Suitable for breakout trading.
